Daniel Esnard

A Soufriere man who was stabbed during an altercation at a party in Industry, Choiseul on January 26, 2014 has died.

Twenty-five-year-old Daniel Esnard died at his Morne La Croix home at about 7:00 this morning, February 12.

Esnard’s sister, Sharkar Attie told SNO her brother had undergone multiple surgeries since the stabbing.

The incident reportedly occurred when Esnard left home to meet her brother at a party to accompany him back home. According to Attie, some men attacked Esnard at the party venue.

Following this, Attie said her brother was transported to the Soufriere Hospital. She claimed he was “stitched up” and sent home.

She is displeased with the manner he was treated at the hospital, accusing hospital staff of not following proper procedure in tending to his injuries.

Attie thought her brother required an internal examination to determine if there was any damage to his organs – something she claimed was not done at the hospital.

“Not even a painkiller. That really hurt me…,” she remarked.

Three days after he was stabbed Esnard was admitted to the St Jude Hospital, where he was operated on three times, his sister explained. One of those surgeries included one on his abdomen. He spent about a week at that hospital.

Esnard reportedly suffered from a punctured lung, damaged diaphragm and internal bleeding, along with fluid infection in his abdomen and lungs. Tubes were inserted into his organs to drain the fluid after which Esnard was released from the hospital, and returned on Monday to have one of them removed.

Attie said her brother’s health was improving, until Saturday. He returned to the Soufriere Hospital after complaining of feeling unwell, but upon examination, Attie recalled, her brother was sent home.

Esnard had again complain of feeling ill on Wednesday morning before he passed away.

Two men are reportedly in police custody in relation to Esnard’s attack.
