A former England cricketer has been selected to coach the St Lucia Zouks for the 2014 Caribbean Premier League starting this summer.

Matthew Maynard is no stranger to the local cricket team. In 2013, he was assistant coach of the Zouks in the CPL’s opening season in 2013.

The CPL kicks off in July and August.

“I’m looking forward to returning to CPL and the Zouks having learned a lot from last year’s experience,” 47-year-old Maynard told Wales Online.

The ex-head coach of the UK-based Glamorgan County Cricket Club will be assisted by ex-West Indies batsman Stuart Williams.

“We will certainly look to improve the team’s performance and with the help of Sir Andy (Roberts), Stuart (Williams) and Darren (Sammy) I hope to put together the plans to make the Zouks a real contender.”

Maynard heads the list of esteemed international coaches announced for the 2014 season.

Jamaica Tallawahs will be defending their 2013 title against the St. Lucia Zouks, Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel, Antigua Hawksbills, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Tridents.
