I remember meeting Darren Sammy at the Ministry of Tourism back in 2006 with the big smile like a jackpot winner.
As an all-rounder representing Micoud, Saint Lucia, Windward Islands, and finally West Indies. Sammy’s first test in June 2007 produced figure of seven wickets for 66 runs.
It is so hard to ignore the constant criticism from cricket fans, who love to abuse, mock, or belittle Sammy. He is often referred to as West Indies’ non-playing captain. He’s a punch line, punching bag, or pappy-show.
Consistent performance as a leader, Sammy continues to justify his role as an asset to West Indies cricket. Sammy is the captain who has given his team their first major ICC trophy since 1979 and World T20 trophy in Sri Lanka two years ago. Let’s wish Sammy – best West Indies captain, and the West Indies team the best of luck as they try to retain the trophy.
