ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Asbury University men’s tennis claimed their second straight Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title on Saturday.
The Eagles beat St. Louis Pharmacy 8-1 to finish conference play unblemished, setting a school record with their sixth conference victory of the season and ending 6-0, their 12th straight win in the KIAC dating back to 2011.
Asbury won three singles matches without dropping a game. Playing at number 3, Saint Lucia’s Nesbert Vaval beat Matt Respicio 6-0, 6-0. The sophomore from Desruisseaux ended regular season play with a record of six wins and four losses. Asbury also won in straight sets at number one, two, five and six. St. Louis Pharmacy won number four singles as Brad Rumancik defeated Stephen Woods 7-6, 3-6, 1-0.
In doubles the Eagles again dominated the Eutectics, dropping only three games in three matches for the second time in three matches. Vaval and Stephen Woods remained undefeated as a team, winning at number two 8-1 while the number three team of Harris and Westlund also remained undefeated as an 8-2 winner.
Schley and Layton close out their second season in KIAC play with another undefeated season, winning 8-0 to improve to 5-0 on the season in conference and 9-0 in two years.
