St. Lucia’s unemployment rate is yet to experience a major reduction at more than 22 percent. An estimated 17,000 young persons are said to be jobless. And the situation may not soon improve given the global trend.
The slow economic recovery is continuing to make it difficult for young people to find jobs around the world, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO).
In its Global Employment Trends for Youth 2013 report, the ILO estimates that 73.4 million young people, or 12. 6 per cent are expected to be out of work in 2013.
The agency says this is close to the levels reached at the peak of the global economic crisis in 2009.
