One week after 15-year-old Felicity Florton was brutally stabbed in Pavee, Castries by a former school mate of the George Charles Secondary School she continues to experience serious internal bleeding.
Eighteen-year-old Stephon Joseph has been charged with stabbing the teen girl 11 times.
The victim’s mother, Heather Charles told St Lucia News Online today (June 20) while her daughter is in a stable condition, the bleeding has not stopped since she was admitted to the Victoria Hospital for treatment on Thursday (June 12).
A stab wound to her back which ruptured her lungs is the main reason for the internal bleeding.
The distraught woman said doctors are trying to stop the bleeding, but have been unsuccessful thus far. She explained that the doctor informed her that he plans on changing the machine being used to filter her blood, because “bubbles” are appearing in the tubes.
She said her daughter has not been able to eat properly since the incident. However, Florton is being fed water, juice and fruits.
“She is in a lot of pain. The machine is attached to one place, under her breast; she has two for oxygen, one for her lungs and another for something else. All of them are connected inside of it…so it is causing a lot of pain,” Charles explained.
Florton has undergone a successful eye surgery since she was also stabbed in her right eye. According to her mother, her vision is blurred periodically.
Doctors have not ruled out other surgery. Florton is also having difficulty breathing.
Doctors told Charles if Florton is to undergo the surgery, it will be a matter between life and death. The teen’s mother said she is hoping she does not have to undergo the surgery, as she is not prepared for a negative outcome.
Residents saw Florton laying in blood on the roadside at Pavee screaming for help last Thursday afternoon.
Residents and passersby rushed to her assistance and called the ambulance.
The accused, Joseph, was charged for attempted murder of Florton on (June 16). He was granted bail in the sum of $6500 cash or land surety.
