The dogs have been blamed for a decline in reservations.

Dogs have been plaguing the Crystals Hotel in Soufriere, resulting in a decline in business.

Assistant Manager Jessica Charles told St Lucia News Online (SNO) today (June 27) that for the last couple of months, dogs from the neighborhood have been visiting the hotel and “disturbing the peace and creating mischief”.

The dogs are also discharging faeces all over the hotel.

“They are going in the garbage, spreading it around the property and going into the guest cottages. It was reported to the Soufriere Police Station, who assured us that they will speak with the neighbours. The manager also spoke with the neighbours about the issue,” Charles said.

At least 10 complaints have been lodged with the police. “Ever since that time we have had about 15 guests, all whom had pretty much checked out. We called to check with the police and was told that is not their problem and we should seek legal advice to take the neighbours to court,” she said.

Garbage emptied by the dogs.

Charles told SNO that it’s putting a strain on their business and they have tried all means of getting assistance, but to no avail.

The hotel is usually booked all year and provides accommodation for about 30-40 people at one time. However, during this month, because of the scenario, reservations have declined.

The hotel will be seeking an audience with the tourism ministry, the Soufriere Constituency Office and the St. Lucia  Hotel and Tourism Association.
