PRESS RELEASE - Sister Olive Joseph of Pavee, better known as Ma Prince, is dead.
Joseph was 102 years old. She worked with the Castries City Council (CCC) all her life and was a member of the National Workers Union (NWU) early in the organisation’s operation.
Ma Prince was a real fighter and participated in numerous working class struggles with the National Workers Union and the then Castries City Council. Whenever the NWU engaged in industrial action with the Council, especially “go slow”, she took it on her own to go around giving workers instructions to make sure that workers who participated in the “go slow “ action did not work faster than expected.
Joseph was a recipient of a special wward from the NWU at its first awards ceremony in June 2013. She will be buried on Thursday July 3, 2014. Her funeral service will be held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Castries.
The NWU stands in full solidarity with her family.
