The community of Grande Riviere, Gros Islet, has a new Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC).

Minister for Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Sen. Hon. Dr. James Fletcher, said that while Gros Islet was not on the priority list for an HRDC because it has the highest rate of internet penetration, parliamentary representative for Gros Islet, Hon. Emma Hippolyte, was adamant that Gros Islet should not overlooked. As such, she embarked on her own to assist the people in her constituency.

“Minister Hippolyte has used the resources at her disposal to construct a community centre in a place that she has jurisdiction over,” he said. “This should not be a deterrent however, as the community centre is open to the public.”

Hippolyte said that several communities within the Gros Islet constituency are usually short-changed because of the constituency’s large size, and despite Government’s economic constraints, she felt it necessary to help.

“I could not envision a new structure in a hurry, yet the needs of the community were urgent. So I made a quick assessment and found a space that is generally used for storage, and we made the decision to turn it into a human resource centre. Government, through its various ministries and departments, endorsed the Grande Riviere HRDC at the official opening last week.
