Digicel supports inaugural Junior Chef competition

PRESS RELEASE - Digicel is excited to support to A new junior chef competition for young Saint Lucian nationals between the ages of 16- 20 years with a passion for culinary arts.

The competition is scheduled to begin at the end of July, 2014 dubbed “Junior Chef Factor”.

Aspiring young chefs will compete to claim the title and be recognized as the No.1 junior chef on the island. The competition which will double as a reality cooking show, was created by Seashell Consulting Inc. and produced in association with Cap Maison Resort and Spa and title sponsor BOKA GROUP owner of Belvedere Estate. It will include seven challenges in seven episodes on Saint Lucia’s premier entertainment channel CHOICE TV (Channel 39) and other television stations.

Digicel has always been an advocate for youth development in creative arts and is committed to assisting in the success of this initiative. According to organizers of the event “we want to help create real opportunities within the creative industries for young people on the island and this is a unique chance for them to learn from the best chefs locally and abroad. We also believe similar to the success of St Lucian culinary icon- Chef Nina Compton, the competitions winner will inspire his/her peers to pursue their dreams”.

The competition will have an elimination format. Cap Maison Resort and Spa will be home to this culinary battle to win several attractive and career pacing prizes and experiences. Saint Lucia’s leading Michelin trained chefs and restaurateurs namely: Craig Jones of The Cliff at Cap, Xavier Ribot owner of Blue Olive, Orlando Satchell owner of Orlando’s and Bobo Bergstrom owner of Fire Grill, The Edge and Starfish; will mentor the contestants and form the judging panel.

As commented by Digicel’s Head of Marketing Leslie Collymore, “Digicel is pleased to be associated with this unique competition as it exposes our young people to global opportunities in rapidly growing, exciting profession that they could excel in. This event will call to action all aspiring chefs to show their skills in the culinary arts under a high pressure environment. Competition at this high level will enable the aspiring master chefs to hone their craft and the organisers should be applauded for this effort”.
