PRESS RELEASE - The Minister of Education and Human Resource Development of Saint Lucia, Honorable Dr. Robert Lewis, members of the Executive of the Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia – Cuba), Ms. Beverly Francis and Ms. Priscilla Jeremie of the Human Resource Department of the Ministry of Education, the Secretary General of the Labor Party, Leo Clarke, and parents, were present at the Orientation/ Farewell activity which was held at the office of the Embassy of Cuba in Rodney Bay for six young persons who received Scholarships in Medicine for the academic year 2014 – 2015.
The Minister of Education expressed once more his appreciation for the effort and commitment of the Government and people of Cuba, who in a sustained manner, has made a significant contribution to the training of the young people from Saint Lucia, in diverse areas, over the 35 years of bilateral relations. , He highlighted the response made by Cuba in the face of the needs in the area of Health, in particular with the training of almost two hundred licensed professionals in Nursing.
The meeting was also addressed by Dr. Gregor Williams, Chairperson of the Scholarship/ Education/ Art and Culture Committee of the Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia – Cuba) and Bro. Leo Clarke, Secretary General of the Labor Party. A parent and a student expressed their gratitude to the Ambassador for the Scholarships which were rewarded. In the midst of complex economic difficulties worsened by the Blockade against Cuba; the humanism of the Cuban Revolution continues to offer opportunities for young people across the world to further their studies.
The Cuban Ambassador expressed her appreciation for the heartfelt speeches that recognized the humanitarian work of the Revolution in this sphere, stating that this opportunity to further the studies is inscribed within the program of the Cuban Revolution as outlined in the book “History will absolve me”, in which the solidarity collaboration is defined as a principle. She also urged the young people to make the best possible use of this opportunity.
