The National Workers Union (NWU) will later this month honour some of Saint Lucia’s finest sons and daughters for their significant achievements in areas of nation building, leadership, trade unionism and political education of the Saint Lucian working people.

Two former prime ministers, three former government ministers and two former stalwarts in the trade union movement will be handed Life Achievement Awards for the tremendous strides they have made in the above areas, thereby improving the living conditions of thousands and thousands of Saint Lucians today.

Each of these awardees, six males and one female, in their own respective way, has made Saint Lucia a force to be reckoned with in the sub-region.

Some of them have since passed on, however the mark they left behind, including their dedication to country, is not only remarkable but should serve as a platform for other sons and daughters to emulate.

Sir John George Melvin Compton, Sir Allan Fitzgerald Louisy, Dr. Hon. Julian Robert Hunte, Comrade George Odlum, Peter Josie, John Burke King and Frances Dorothy Michel will be honoured during an awards ceremony to be held at the Royal Saint Lucian Hotel, June 28, 2013.

The awards ceremony, slated for the afternoon of the aforementioned day, will have special invited guests including Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy who will hand the awards to the Lifetime Achievement awardees. George Theophilus will hand out the Service Recognition Awards.

The awards ceremony is a special session of the NWU’s 3rd Triennial Congress of Delegates which is scheduled for the morning of the same day at the hotel.

Archbishop Robert Rivas will be the feature speaker at the open session of the Congress. Also in attendance will be National Security Minister Philip La Corbiniere, Labour Minister Dr. Robert Lewis, and other special invited guests.
