Samantha ‘Soca Princess’ Combie

Saint Lucian-born United Kingdom-based soca artiste Samantha Combie, who goes by the stage name Soca Princess, has been nominated for her first International Soca Award.

Combie, along with five other artistes from the region, is nominated for Best New Female Soca Artiste of the Year for her 2012 groovy soca song “Fit” which was written and produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis of Saint Lucian-based Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic.

This is the second such recognition of its type for Combie. The video for her nominated song “Fit” was in 2012 selected for Best UK Soca Music Video and for Best UK Female Soca Artiste at the UK-based Soca Music Awards.

The 11th annual International Soca Awards will be held in Grenada on August 6. Voting for the winners began on Friday, May 17 and will end on August 2.

Combie is encouraging all Saint Lucians to show their support for her highest career achievement to date, voting for her at socaawards.com.

The International Soca Awards is the main recognition showcase for soca artistes. Produced by Trinidad entrepreneur Colin Jackman of the Brooklyn-based Soca Awards Organization, it has previously been held in New York and Trinidad and Tobago.

Combie is a former Groovy Soca Monarch finalist. Her entrance into the world of competitive soca came when she played “Pressure” during Ricky T’s 2008 Soca Monarch performance of Pressure Boom.

And while she is excited about her nomination, the Soca Princess is also clearly focused on her 2013 season, already releasing the groovy song Soca Man off the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Junkie Bacchanal Riddim.

Combie, along with producers Penn and Ace of Studio 758, are the only Saint Lucians nominated for this year’s International Soca Awards.
