PRESS RELEASE - As they have done since 2009, the Folk Research Centre and the Alliance Francaise partner again this year to present the annual Music, Story-telling and Poetry Fiesta on Wednesday October 22nd at 7.30 pm.
The event will be held at The Pyramid, Pointe Seraphine.
Headlining the music programme will be the Manmay Kwéyòl folk group and Menell, former Calypso monarch of St. Lucia.
The programme will be dedicated to the Honorable Derek Walcott, Nobel laureate 1992, with special recognition of his contribution to Kwéyòl culture in his poems and plays. A special reading of excerpts of a translation of Mr. Walcott’s classic play Ti Jean and his brothers by Allan Weekes into St. Lucian Kwéyòl will be presented. Readers come from Martinique and St. Lucia. The excerpts are directed by Travis Weekes.
The Fiesta has become increasingly popular over the years drawing standing- room only crowds.
The show is free and open to the public.
