PRESS RELEASE - One of three bridges constructed by government through grant funding from the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America (ALBA) will receive its official opening on Monday November 3rd 2014.
The Demailley Bridge, also known as the Fond Coolie Bridge, was built at a cost of just over EC $1.7 Million and links the Vieux Fort North community of Belle Vue and Desruisseaux in Micoud South.
The very old structure was damaged by Hurricane Tomas in 2010.
Though partial repairs were undertaken then on the structure to make it more motorable, the Ministry of Infrastructure Port Services and Transport decided that the bridge was unsafe and would have to be entirely rebuilt.
Construction work on the two-lane reinforced concrete bridge started in February of this year and was delivered on schedule.
Parliamentary Representative for Vieux Fort North Hon. Moses Jn Baptiste is elated that this long overdue bridge will bring much needed relief to the residents of Vieux Fort North and Micoud South.
Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Economic Affairs, Planning and Social Security is expected to deliver the keynote address at Monday’s exercise.
Parliamentary Representative for Vieux Fort North Hon Moses Jn Baptiste, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport Hon Philip J Pierre and Venezuelan Ambassador to Saint Lucia Her Excellency Leiff Escalona are all expected to address the gathering.
The now refurbished Rouarné Bridge in the vicinity of Savannes and the Grande Rivière Bridge in Dennery North are the other two bridges built through grant funding from the
Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America (ALBA).
Monday’s exercise will be conducted at the site of the new structure and will commence at 3:30pm.
