Two students who were allegedly involved in a fight with a female teacher at the Clendon Mason Memorial School in Dennery have been suspended.
Reports reaching St. Lucia News Online (SNO) indicates that the police have also taken statements from both the students and teacher, involved in the incident.
Officials of the Ministry of Education reportedly met with staff at the school today to discuss the incident, among other issues.
Reports are that the ministry has also requested a written report on the incident from the principal of the school.
Sources claim that students are allegedly responsible for the fight and were the aggressors.
A source told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that students are usually not allowed in other sections during recess. However, three fifth form boys were in the second form section.
Having noticed them, the female teacher involved in the incident pleaded with them to return to their section and reminded them that they were not supposed to be there.
However, the teenage students refused to adhere to the teacher’s request and in the process of leaving the area, they allegedly assaulted the teacher.
The teacher held on to one of the boys to calm him down, but instead she was allegedly punched in her face. The boys according to the source were also using obscene language.
It is also alleged that students at that specific school would usually threaten teachers.
School administrators are said to be aware of this, but have failed to take action against the students.
A former teacher of the school also said the students are uncontrollable.
President of the Saint Lucia Teachers Union (SLTU) Julian Monrose has refused to comment on the issue saying that he will do so once a full investigation is done.
Monrose claims he was only made aware of the incident through the media.
