PRESS RELEASE - The Chancery of National Awards and Honours invites nominations for the Award of National Hero to be announced on the occasion of the celebration of Saint Lucia’s Thirty – Sixth (36th) Anniversary of Independence in February 2015.
The Society of Honour known as the Order of National Hero was established in February 2000, and provided for in the National Honours and Awards Act, Cap. 17.08 of the Laws of Saint Lucia.
The Honour of National Hero is to be conferred upon any person who was born in Saint Lucia or who at the time of his or her death was a citizen of Saint Lucia and who has -
(a) given outstanding service to Saint Lucia where that service has altered the course of the history of Saint Lucia;
(b) given service to Saint Lucia which has been exemplified by visionary and pioneering leadership, extraordinary achievements or attainment of the highest excellence , and which has redounded to the honour of Saint Lucia; or
(c) through his or her heroic exploits or sacrifices contributed to the improvement of the economic and social conditions of Saint Lucia and Saint Lucians generally.
Members of the public, organizations, statutory authorities and other public or private institutions are invited to submit nominations to the National Heroes Commission for consideration.

Reasons should be given why the nominee should be honoured as a National Hero, and these should be supported by his or her Curriculum Vitae, and a summary of the activities in which he or she has/had been involved, preferably in chronological order.
Nomination forms can be obtained at the Office of the Governor General, the National Printing Corporation, District Council Offices, as well as on the website of the National Printing Corporation -www.slugovprintery.com and that of the Office of the Governor General – http://governorgeneral.govt.lc/honours and awards.
These should reach the Chancery on or before Friday, January 16, 2015.
