Nearly 50 students took part in the 2014 Carmen Rene Memorial School’s annual road race, with dozens more involved in sporting activity earlier in the week, including inter-house football and cricket.

The road race went from the school compound, through San Souci, L’Anse Road and Barnard Hill, and back into the school year. The top 18 athletes were awarded medals and the top three boys and girls got trophies.

Topping the boys was Liam Bonnaire in 8:47.57, representing Gill House. Randy Austin of Walcott in 8:55.36 and Royce Paul of Rene in 9:23.74 took second and third.

The first girl across the finish line was Walcott’s Zaida James in 10:07.57, just ahead of Gill’s Akasha Herman (10:55.10) and Walcott’s Nichelle Francis (13:46.04).

After the road race, Gill House – on 43 points – held a narrow one-point advantage over Walcott, with Rene (25) and Lewis (17) clearly needing to make up a lot of ground.

Gill was also triumphant in football, beating Lewis House for that title, but in cricket, Gill House had to settle for second best as Rene House were crowned champions.
