GIS - Minister for Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries, Hon. Lorne Theophilus said the presence of four cruise ships docked in the Castries harbour yesterday, is unprecedented in recent times.

He added, however, that Saint Lucians can expect to get accustomed to this sight.

“Our high season this year is supposed to be very high. We can expect to see these numbers fairly consistently until the earlier parts of next year, and we’re working assiduously to ensure that what has been the norm over the past years of having a slow, lower season will be a thing of the past.”

So far, the government has been pleased with the progress of the industry, and has collaborated with partners to improve the island’s tourism trade.

“We feel very proud of the fact that we have managed to maintain a very high capacity for the destination. The fact that we have that number of cruise ships in the harbour indicated that the approach we have taken towards marketing the destination has continued to pay off and that Saint Lucia is still a destination in high demand.”

Saint Lucia is currently working along with other Caribbean islands on a cruise initiative to combat the slower season.
