GIS - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Jorge Francisco Soberon Luis, presented his Letters of Credence to Saint Lucia’s Governor-General, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy on Thursday.
According to the Governor General, Cuba was among the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with the newly independent Saint Lucia in 1979.
“Since then, relations between our two countries have grown considerably, from being merely cordial to being close and endearing,” Dame Pearlette said. “Following upon the establishment of the Saint Lucia–Cuba Joint Commission in 1999, and the establishment of a Cuban Embassy in 2001, our two countries have continued to support each other’s development objectives.”
Ambassador Luis agreed, adding that the countries’ bilateral relations have been to the benefit of the people of both nations.
“Your Excellency, our relationship allows us to respond to the needs of both our peoples and work towards the sustainable development of our countries,” he said. “It is a great honor for me to be designated Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Saint Lucia and I assure you I will dedicate myself to further strengthening relations between our countries in current and new ways.”
More than 500 Saint Lucians have benefitted from the Cuba Scholarship program and over ten thousand patients have been operated on through the Cuban Operation Miracle program.
