Saint Lucian middle blocker Julian Bissette has been a revelation for Greek club MENT during the 2014 season, their first season in the A1 Division of the Greek Volleyleague.
He’s been among team leaders on both sides of the ball, and his level of athleticism has been a huge boost for the Thessaloniki based outfit.
Now, MENT is doubling up, with the addition of a second Saint Lucian player, and reuniting the island’s top male beach volleyball team.
On Tuesday afternoon, MENT announced that Joseph Clercent would be joining them this week. The 6’2″ 27-year-old, an alumnus of Anse Ger Secondary, and an outside hitter, will be joining the Greek side as of Friday.
Joe, as he is more familiarly known, is fresh off winning Most Valuable Player honours at the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association men’s championships, where he also led Saint Lucia to a third straight title. Prior to joining MENT, the jovial dreadlocked national captain previously worked in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports as a kids volleyball coach.
Both young players have been supported throughout by the Saint Lucia Volleyball Association, and Brazilian coach João Carlos Campos (better known in Saint Lucia as Coach Café) has played a crucial role in helping them both secure this big step in their careers.
Last month, Julian and Joe took sixth place on the sand at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico.
