Minister for Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Senator the Honorable Dr James Fletcher, met with representatives from the Carbon War Room as Saint Lucia moves ahead with the 10-island challenge.

The Carbon War Room has become a significant partner as government ambitiously tries to move away from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. Though government has made great strides on its own, there is still a lot more that needs to be done.

“With the expertise, the resources, the network of the Carbon War Room, I think we have a partner who can help us in putting these pieces together.  There is a lot that we have been doing and over the past few months we have been sharing that information with you but there is still a lot of coordination, a lot of collaboration, a lot of cohesion that must take place and I think the Carbon War Room presents us with a partner that can help us in achieving this.”

Chief Operating Officer for the Carbon War Room, Peter Boyd, indicated that his non-profit organisation brings invaluable assets to this partnership.

“We look across the world for giga-tons reduction in carbon emissions that can be achieved profitably. And what does that mean?  It means looking for energy efficiency savings. It is looking for new business opportunities”.

Virgin Limited Edition is aiming to reduce and/or eliminate the use of fossil fuels for electricity generation on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands — home to entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson.  Saint Lucia is part of the 10 island challenge which will see an attempt to transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.
