GIS - The Ministry of Commerce, Business Development, Investment and Consumer Affairs will go one step further in its drive to “buy local” by putting local manufacturers and service providers in touch with the officials who make procurement decisions for government.
A meeting scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, will explore strategies for facilitating government procurement of goods and services from the local private sector.
At that meeting, it is expected that direct contact will be made with government officials who will provide first-hand information on the range of potential goods and services that are available for purchase by the government.
This is part of efforts by the Ministry of Commerce to boost a buy local drive facilitated by a Cabinet Conclusion #833 that asks Permanent Secretaries to inform the Ministry of Commerce of procurement expenditure on domestic goods and services by their respective ministries.
The Ministry therefore invites manufacturers and service providers who have goods and services that can be purchased by the government, to a domestic buyer-seller forum on Feb. 12, at 10 a.m. at the St. Lucia Manufacturers Association Conference Room, Bridge Street.
Interested persons are asked to contact the Marketing Specialist Ms. Cindy Eugene, at 758.468.4212 or 758.285.4677.
