PRESS RELEASE - Staff of the Ministry of Social Transformation, Local Government and Community Empowerment, government officials, volunteers and well-wishers joined the Boys Training Centre (BTC) in its 55th anniversary observance this week.

On Thursday February 19, 2015 the BTC hosted a church service at the St. Joseph the Worker Church in Gros-Islet, followed by an exhibition at the Centre under the theme “Changing Children, Changing Lives”.

BTC Manager Mr. Leonard Terrance said the milestone presented an opportunity for reflection on the progression of the centre, and for charting the way forward in the context of both triumphs and challenges.

“This is a very special occasion. As I reflect especially on the last few months, we are beginning to see a lot of hard work paying off in terms of strides we have made in standardizing the academic programmes of the BTC, securing vocational certification for the boys, in increasing the level of safety and security of the facility, embarking upon renovation works, the inclusion of new programming at the centre and the development of the skills and talents of the wards evidenced by their participation in local, regional and now international sporting tournaments,” Mr. Terrance remarked.

The BTC wards presented their talent to guests as the Centre’s music ensemble performed both at the church and during the exhibition.

Volunteers who have contributed to the development of the boys were recognized with the presentation of certificates of appreciation from the BTC management and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Transformation.
