Parliamentary Representative for Soufriere and Minister of Social Transformation, Local Government and Community Empowerment, Harold Dalsan, told Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) supporters that he will always remain loyal to his party.

Dalsan who was the first to speak at the SLP public meeting held Thursday (April 23) at the Castries Market Steps said he is also proud to be working under the stewardship of Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony.

The minister said he is not ashamed of being described as a “stooge” of the prime minister. “I am a proud stooge, I am dignified stooge and I can never be a stooge to Gale Rigobert,” he told a cheering crowd.

The SLP member went on to state that when Opposition Leader Dr Gale Rigobert entered the political arena, he admired her intelligence and achievements. But Dalsan said he can no longer say this.

“In spite of the fact that her family spent so much money sending her to school, giving her the highest level of education that one can perceive, today when it comes to discussing issues and making suggestions, instead of telling her supporters of what they would do, she goes on radio and takes double standard,” he told his supporters.

Dalsan said Dr Rigobert reminds him of somebody who is intellectually challenged. “I know she is not, but she has been infected by “Chastmania.”

“When you have achieved that level of education she has achieved, you are suppose to add value to existing knowledge and not reverse and kick people with ignorance,” he further stated.

The SLP member said the opposition has been bashing the government on every possible issue, but has failed to make one recommendation that would help to address any of the issues.

He also criticised the media for publishing a press statement that was recently issued by the United Workers Party (UWP), which accused the prime minster of name calling.

The UWP took umbrage over statements made by Dr Anthony who described its party member, Dominic Fedee, as a “little boy. Fedee received the highest votes in the first runoff for the UWP Cannaries/Anse La Raye candidacy.

The minister also spoke at lengths about the many achievements made in addressing poverty in Saint Lucia.

Dalsan told SLP supporters that his “Report Card” is good and several issues are being addressed by his ministry. He boasted about the recent implementation of the Social Protection Policy, which will help several poor families.

The minister also informed the gathering that other social programmes introduced under the SLP government have been performing favorably well. These are all well-intended to serve the people and bring prosperity to the country.

He said the SLP is taking care of everyone: infants, children, youths, adults, the differently abled and the elderly. He disclosed that there are also plans to have these programmes sustained and expanded.

The Soufriere representative said progress will continue under the SLP government.
