Saint Lucia’s cricket champion, Darren Sammy, continues to receive huge praises for his captaincy that led the West Indies team to victory in the 2016 ICC Twenty 20 tournament.

Joining the many persons who have commended Sammy, so far, is Political Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Allen Chastanet, who said the Saint Lucian cricketer displayed great leadership.

Chastanet also commended the efforts made by government to put on a show, not only for Sammy, but his fellow Saint Lucian team mate Johnson Charles.

The political leader told HTS NewsForce he is happy that Sammy was taken through his home village in Duggard, Micoud on Tuesday.

But while the government has also renamed the  Beauséjour Stadium cricket ground in honour of Sammy, Chastanet believes more should be done to celebrate the cricket champion.

He has since suggested that the government erect a billboard on the main highway to let all people know about Sammy’s birthplace.

He went on to state that if the government doesn’t do it, he will find the resources to ensure that the billboard goes up in tribute to Darren Sammy and his community of Duggard.

Chastanet is the UWP candidate Micoud South.
