Stephenson King had refused to resign as opposition leader.

The Parliamentary Representative for Castries North Stephenson King has planned a series of town hall meetings in his constituency as he seeks to reassure residents of his “commitment to effective representation.”

A press release from the Office of the Leader of the Opposition described King’s commitment as “unwavering,” stating that he “will continue to advance and advocate the cause of all the people of Castries North in their determination for social and economic equality and infrastructural development.”

The meetings are to discuss general issues and recent political developments pertaining to the Castries North Constituency, the release said.

The first of these forums will be held at the Vide Bouteille Secondary School on Wednesday January 29, at 5 p.m.

The second will take place at the Morne Du Don Primary School on Monday February 3, 2014 at 5 p.m. with a third at the Uptown Gardens Girl Centre on Sunday February 9, 2014 at 4 p.m.

The final meeting will be hosted at the Chase Gardens Human Resource Centre on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 5 p.m.

“Mr. King has extended an invitation to all constituents and interested persons to attend these Town Hall Meetings,” the release said.

These meetings come about a week after King’s United Workers Party (UWP) colleagues opted to have him voted out of the post of opposition leader. An official letter has been sent to the governor general to formalise that process. Dr. Gale Rigobert, the party’s deputy political leader and parliamentary representative for Micoud North, has been recommended to replace him.
