Consistent with an announcement made by Prime Minister Kenny Anthony in his New Year address to the nation, parents will begin to receive financial assistance to purchase school supplies lost as a result of the Christmas Eve trough.
The first disbursement will be made to parents and guardians in the community of Vieux-Fort, on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.
A ceremony will be held at the Vieux-Fort Technical Secondary School at 3:30 p.m., where the Parliamentary Representative for Vieux-Fort South, the prime minister the Minister for Education Dr. Robert Lewis, principals, teachers, parents and students from the various schools in the south will meet.
The five hundred and forty four students who will benefit from this assistance were previously identified by the teachers at the various schools and submitted to the Ministry of Education.
As highlighted by Dr. Anthony in his address to the nation, 112 secondary school students will receive $1000 per student, while 250 primary school students will receive $800 each. One hundred and eighty two (182) children from infant and special education schools have been identified, and will receive $600.00 each.
Parents are expected to use the assistance to purchase text books, school uniforms, shoes and other supplies needed for their children’s education.
