Teacher at Anse La Raye Primary School Cox Chemida accepts a pack of books from Opposition Leader Dr. Dale Rigobert.
Students at select educational institutions on the island were on Wednesday presented with school supplies and clothing from the United Workers Party’s Women in Action (WIA) group.
These items came as part of a joint effort between the WIA and several other donors who include local and regional private sector organizations and individuals, British Airways and the Caribbean Mentorship Institute. The supplies are being given to schools which were affected by the 2013 Christmas Eve trough.
The Anse La Raye and Canaries schools were among recipients of these donations.
Leader of the Opposition Dr. Gale Rigobert, who presented the items on behalf of the WIA to the Anse La Raye Primary School during a small ceremony, gave a commitment to continuing to support the institution, “to ensure that children will not be affected by what we saw in December.”
She commented that today’s presentation was the beginning of a long partnership between the two bodies, “in good times and in bad times.”
She said she hopes the supplies will go a long way in facilitating education in the community of Anse La Raye.
Dr. Rigobert said the UWP and WIA’s drive to aid communities and children affected by the trough will continue and that “where there is difficulty you can count on us to respond to your need.”
Teacher at the school Cox Chemida graciously welcomed the donation on behalf of the school. She said the supplies will come in handy in helping students to resettle after the effects of the trough.
Schools in Micoud North and Bexon are also down to receive similar donations.
