PRESS RELEASE – Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) is a gold sponsor of the seven-member Saint Lucia team that will leave the island on Friday, June 27, 2014 to compete in the regional Taste of the Caribbean Culinary Competition.

Saint Lucia’s culinary team is led by Chef Elijah Jules and includes Refer Leonce, Martha Hippolyte, Peter Lawrence, Caron Jean, Sharma Peter and Bartender Alva Preville.

The food maestros represent a number of hotels across the island and were chosen from national competitions held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 among 12 chefs.

LUCELEC Corporate Communications Manager Roger Joseph says the electricity company is expecting great results from Team Saint Lucia.

“Tourism plays a significant role in St. Lucia’s economy and the island’s participation in activities such as these help to turn the spotlight on St. Lucia’s positives and what the island has to offer visitors in an increasingly competitive global tourism industry. Even more so when we win. And LUCELEC is happy to be able to do our part to give the team the best chance of coming out on top,” Joseph said.

Team Saint Lucia will also be supported by Saint Lucia’s Culinary Ambassador Chef Nina Compton who is based in Miami.

Saint Lucia has a good record in the Taste of the Caribbean competition, winning gold in the Chef of the Year category in 2012 and Bartender of the Year in 2010.

The Taste of the Caribbean Culinary Competition will be held from June 28 to July 2, 2014 in Miami. The competition is organised by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.
