A faulty relay switch in the generator room at the Victoria Hospital has caused some disruption in the services offered at the health care institution, officials at the Ministry of Health disclosed.
The disruption occurred at about 11:00 a.m today and lasted for about an hour.
Hospital Engineer, Gilan Joseph said the hospital began to experience some temporary fluctuations in the power supplied to the facility, due to a faulty relay switch in the generator room.
“The change over switch in the generator room was going bad and it had the power changing from the generator power to LUCELEC power, so we were seeing some fluctuations in the power,” he explained.
A replacement relay has been sourced and should be installed soon. A temporary solution has been put in place as well; bypassing the relay switch on the generator and connecting directly to LUCELEC’s mains.
There was no damage to equipment during the fluctuations in the electricity supply. However, dialysis services had to be temporarily put on hold for today.
The hospital experienced a power outage almost two weeks ago, which was reportedly caused by a faulty power breaker.
The blackout occurred between 5.p.m and 6.p.m on Tuesday, November 4 and lasted for several hours. It also affected dialysis services being offered to patients at that time.
