A new executive was chosen today for the National Association of Driving Schools, at the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The new executive now comprises of: President Thomar Francis, Vice-President Dwight Desire, Treasurer Ezra Remy, Public Relations Officer Kingson Jean and Secretary Kisha Baptiste.

Jean told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that the team also met with Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Allison Gajadhar, who pledged to work the association.

Jean said the official said she prefers to work with the association, rather than individual instructors. “She said she would like to discuss all issues that may affect our members before it reaches a point where it is unbearable,” he told SNO.

Jean also explained that three examiners will be retiring in February and as a result there will only be two left. However, the ministry promised to employ four new examiners, to replace those that are preparing to retire.

In November last year, some 20 driving school instructors staged a protest in front the Ministry of Transport in Union over a shortage of driving examiners.

Further, Gajadhar also discussed with the association, plans to provide theory and practical tests for people who might be interested in driving trailers and other heavy duty vehicles. “As it stands now you can just pay $50 to get your license endorsed to driver such vehicles,” he told SNO.

The team was also briefed on the four-lane expansion project from Choc to the Gros-Islet Highway.
