PRESS RELEASE - The Saint Lucia Basketball Federation (SLBF) in collaboration with KFC is all set to commence its 2015 season with the first event on its calendar of planned activities.
On Sunday February 22nd, in celebration of our 36th Independence, the SLBF is proud and excited to host the first ever FIBA endorsed 3×3 basketball tournament in the Caribbean.
This tournament will be held at the Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex from 9am – 8pm and will be played under the new FIBA 3×3 tournament rules.
The tournament is opened to the general public and will feature three divisions: Ladies, Under 17 boys and the Senior Men. Registration for the tournament is $20 for Under 17 boys and $25 for both the Ladies and Senior Men per player.
The deadline for registration is Thursday February 16th, 2015 and each team is allowed a maximum of four (4) players.
Other events scheduled for the day will be the Slam dunk competition and 3 point shoot-out.
President of The St. Lucia Basketball Federation Leslie Collymore stated “We are indeed honored to be given this opportunity to partner with the international governing body FIBA to execute this globally endorsed event. This endorsement by FIBA 3X3 planet marks a tremendous achievement for the development of the sport.”
A Press Conference to launch the tournament will be held on Wednesday 18th, February at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Blue Coral Bldg from 10am.
Agenda items include:(i)the rules of the new FIBA 3×3 game, (ii)format of this tournament, (iii)introduction of FIBA 3×3 representative,(iv)calendar of events for the 2015 season, just to name a few.
