COMMENTARY: UWP disingenuous at best

Team Chastanet

Dear Sir,

I will not attempt to unwrap too much of what some of us know, until the time is right, except to tell the UWP newcomers in camouflage and their poster boy leadership that beggars for a seat need to come clean.

Trying to ruffle established feathers and longstanding party members will not cut it. The backdoor tactics and misguided scenarios will come into flambeau light soon!

Knowing that there are no safe seats and no amount of money can buy one, except votes on election day, the road ahead is three years down the road. The creation of a special committee as proposed is undeniable; though an attempt to disguise it as a ghost in the night is fast and furious.

The fiasco with the article “Kenny’s cap in hand expedition” (is it Michael Chastanet or Oswald Augustin?) is another example to contend with, where political sidekicks and reformed socialists are attempting to carry out clandestine operations, while a pretty boy face is on television and radio.

The other RORO to contend with is who the real leader of the UWP is, knowing that leadership is earned, and cannot be bought on a supermarket shelf or with meals and lodging at a hotel — both of which are perishables and have a short shelf life.

Moreso, when will Senator Leonard Montoute learn that he is not the chosen one to run the Gros Islet seat come the next election? I wonder whom he will run to when handed his pink slip and running shoes.

Further, who can touch Castries Central, when Richard Frederick has shown that he can win the seat with or without the UWP? So the Catherine Sealys and the Petra Nelsons, or the independent senator Dr Steven King better not try anything. There is no vacancy in Castries Central!

Also, it would be a huge mistake for the poster boy leadership and his camouflaged acolytes to carry out the same shopping expedition as prior to the election 2011 to find a seat. Sorry, my friend. Be guided that you cannot win a seat with all of your resources and ability to sell ice to an Eskimo. So don’t be fooled to think that you have the mojo without Stephenson King and the core UWPs to win a seat, much less a general election. You should try to forget the convention, which was fabricated and bought for 30 pieces of silver.

So to create the impression of passing the torch as reported in the local media on the celebration of UWP 50th anniversary, and to attempt to have Stephenson King step aside from the Castries North East seat, with the promise of government house on Morne Fortune hillside, is double jeopardy, a situation you seem to like.

While I am at Morne Fortune I will touch base with Castries South East’s Guy Joseph and let him know he too has a surprise coming. Soon come… as my soon to arrive Jamaican friends would say!

Not to mention that, though widely kept under wraps every time the issue of a split in the party comes up, there is ample acknowledgement that such has occurred. It is just a matter of time, the keeping of promises and the right conditions to shine flambeau light on it.

I take this opportunity to wish Chairman Ezekiel Joseph well with his castigations of persons in the inner circle, or the core of the party… if there is such a thing, since walls can talk. I guess since both of us are farmers there is never a shortage of seeds to plant. The difference is which one will grow.

As I write, the Senate is in session so as many are of the contrary opinions say no. But I think the ayes have it. The ayes have it.
